Welcome to 2025, reader. I hope you had a good holiday season—gentle, if not joyful. It’s been a year since I started writing these summaries, and it was no small year in my life. I finished and published three books (Revolution Reign: Prince; The Ironlight; The Houses of Death), moved to the city of my dreams, and reconnected with my happiness. It called me occasionally, but it had been a long time since it visited with the intention of staying and becoming part of my life. A poetic way of saying that I am finally where I’m meant to be, in the home that called to me for so many years, and I feel happy and at peace.
Bienvenido a 2025, lector. Ojalá pasaras buenas fiestas; gentiles, sino felices. Ya pasó un año desde que empecé a hacer estos resúmenes y no fue un año menor en mi vida. Terminé y publiqué tres libros (Revolución Reign: Príncipe; La luz de hierro; Las casas de la muerte), me mudé a la ciudad de mis sueños y me volví a encontrar con mi felicidad. Me llamaba ocasionalmente, pero llevaba tiempo sin visitarme con intenciones de quedarse y ser parte de mi vida. Forma poética de decir que al fin estoy en donde debo estar, en el hogar que me llamó por tantos años, y me siento feliz y en paz.
It’s hard not to find joy amidst so much beauty. Firenze is a gem, from its gates to the river, from the bustling centre full of tourists to the secluded bastion where I found a group to belong to (and where I got to shoot foam animals with a bow).
Difícil no encontrar alegría entre tanta belleza. Firenze es una joya, desde las puertas al río, desde el centro atestado de turistas al recluido baluarte en el que encontré un grupo al que pertenecer (y donde disparar con un arco a animales de gomaespuma).
I have new dreams to fulfill in 2025 and many hopes tied to books and projects. I’ll talk about them now, but first, a warning: when discussing my books, I usually include an image of the cover or an inside picture. However, since this novel is still in progress, I haven’t refined its visual details yet and, consequently, haven’t paid anyone to illustrate it. I will, of course, but for now, to separate the personal from the literary in this post, I described the book’s plot to an AI to see what it would spit out. This was the result. Consider it both a spoiler and a hallucination (and a crime against anatomy).

This is about my next novel, of course—a gay romance set in Firenze. It’s an ambitious and challenging project. The protagonist, Iskandar, kicked me out of the driver’s seat the moment I named him and has been in control ever since. I usually give my characters freedom and let the story flow in the direction that feels most natural, rather than forcing it to be what I want to write, but I’ve never had a protagonist as strong as Iskandar. I suppose I deserve it for giving him that name.
Se trata de mi próxima novela, por supuesto. Un romance gay sito en Firenze. Es un proyecto ambicioso y difícil; el protagonista, Iskandar, me pateó fuera del asiento del conductor desde que le di nombre y ha tenido el control desde el comienzo. Suelo dar libertad a mis personajes y permitir que la historia fluya en la dirección que más natural se siente en vez de forzarla a ser lo que yo quiero escribir, pero jamás tuve un protagonista tan fuerte como Iskandar. Supongo que me lo merezco por darle ese nombre.
I hope this book (which has resisted being named—it’s not that I don’t want to tell you what it’s called) will be finished in the first half of 2025. And then… Good Apollo, what will I do then? I have no idea. There are two stories I started years ago and never finished: Revolution Reign: King and Crowned by the Sun, both epic fantasies centered on the politics of Genesis, the human kingdom in Errantia (though set in different eras).
Espero que este libro (que se ha resistido a ser nombrado, no es que no quiera decirles cómo se llama) esté terminado en la primera mitad del 2025 y luego… Buen Apolo, ¿qué haré luego? No tengo idea. Hay dos historias que están a medio escribir desde hace años, «Revolución Reign: Rey» y «Coronados por el sol», ambas fantasías épicas centradas en la política de Génesis, el reino de los humanos en Errantia (aunque en diferentes épocas).
Victor Magides has also been hovering around, urging me to tell the story of his life. But I don’t know how I would write a biography as complex as his. Usually, one expects a book to end after marriage, kids, and old age, but Victor’s life is just beginning at that point. Since that’s something he didn’t expect either, it’s very hard to give the story a structure that feels appropriate and coherent from the start.
También me ha rondado Víctor Magides para que cuente la historia de su vida, pero no sé cómo escribiría una biografía tan compleja como la suya. Uno en general espera que tras casarse, tener hijos y llegar a la vejez, el libro termine, pero la vida de Víctor está recién empezando para ese entonces y, dado que es algo que él no se esperaba tampoco, es muy difícil darle una estructura que se sienta apropiada y coherente desde el principio.
Looking at it from the first of January this year, the story most likely to be finished is Crowned by the Sun, but perhaps I’ll succumb to a desire that emerged within me after my last book. Being able to write, edit, translate, and publish The Houses of Death in two months was wonderful. My projects always take years because I never write short stories. And now… I feel like writing shorter books. I don’t have anything planned, but maybe that will change.
Viéndolo desde el primero de enero de este año, la historia con más probabilidad de ser terminada este año es «Coronados por el sol», pero tal vez acabe venciéndome un deseo que apareció en el fondo de mi ser con mi último libro. Poder escribir, corregir, traducir y publicar «Las casas de la muerte» en dos meses fue maravilloso. Mis proyectos siempre toman años porque nunca escribo historias cortas. Y ahora… tengo ganas de hacer libros cortos. No tengo nada planeado, pero capaz eso cambie.
It will undoubtedly be an interesting year. Let’s see what surprises it brings and what dreams it fulfills. I’ll keep sharing my progress every two months as I have been, so you’ll always know what I’m working on and when to expect my next publications.
