Greetings, readers! This has been an interesting couple of months. Many of you have probably already seen what’s been happening, but just in case you missed something, I’ll tell you everything:
First: a few days ago, I took part in the Year of Queer Lit, where five of my books (those featuring queer protagonists) were available on sale. Moxie, who organised the event, worked wonders bringing us all together and preparing the promotional material. Thanks to this, far more people than I expected discovered my books, and I discovered nine authors who are now on my reading list. I always leave reviews on Goodreads, so follow me there if you’d like to see what I think of these novels as I read them.
Second: the wonderful Dominic Noble did a review of my book The Ironlight. I’ve been one of his patrons on Patreon for years because I adore his work and admire his integrity, so I offered him the book and told him he was more than welcome to make a video about it if he wanted to; and, if he did, to be completely honest in his opinion.
I admit that, when I saw that the video had been published, I felt a bit of vertigo, but his words made me laugh, celebrate, cry (I get emotional very easily), and take note of his criticisms. It was a wonderful experience, and I had an absolute blast talking with his fandom in the comments. Come and watch the video if you haven’t already (or, why not?, watch it again!)
Third: this is something that came about at the request of Dominic’s fandom. Many people can’t or don’t want to use Amazon to buy their books, so they asked me about alternatives and mentioned Kobo. I wasn’t familiar with the platform, but I’m starting to get the hang of it. I’ve already published several of my books there, though not all of them yet. Don’t worry, they will all be available on the website eventually, but some of the files have given me errors that I need to learn how to fix. The ones that behaved themselves on the first attempt are already available, and you can find the links on each book’s page. The rest will gradually appear over time. You can visit this link to see the ones currently available in English.
I want to make it clear that both Amazon and Kobo pay the same royalties, and I tried (and failed, I’m working on fixing it) to make the prices the same on both platforms, so please don’t worry about me when choosing where to get my novels. Use whichever site you prefer. (The printed books are only available on Amazon, as Kobo doesn’t currently offer that option.)
Please, if you buy any of the books and come across a formatting error, whether or not it actually prevents you from reading the book, let me know. I have experience with Amazon and I own a Kindle, so I can make sure everything works properly there, but I’m only just beginning to climb the Kobo learning curve.
That’s all the news for now, but the post isn’t over yet. At the beginning of the year, I told myself that I would have the second part of Revolution Reign finished and published by the end of the first half of the year, but the book has challenged me more than I expected. I’m hopeful that my next post will be to announce its publication.
And what happens after that? I’m trying not to decide just yet. Several books are orbiting me, along with a whole lot of ideas, but every time I’ve allowed myself to daydream about other characters and stories, I’ve ended up wondering where the week went. Once I’ve finished the duology, I’ll very probably start editing Ink and Scythe’s story, which is already almost finished, while planning a new novel based on whichever character pulls hardest at my spirit. I have faith in Hahn and the sequel he proposed to me, and in Tresh and the exquisite worldbuilding they keep showing me in my dreams, but Amé is the sort who bites to get his way, so I wouldn’t know who to bet on.
